Europe car sales gloom: two-decade low

European car sales plummeted to the lowest in two decades, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (EAMA).

Contrary to the EU’s gloomy numbers, sales in the UK rose 13% in June, making it the 16th consecutive monthly rise. 

Europe’s largest economy, Germany’s exports fell 9% in May, according to data from the EU’s statistics office. Markets in Spain, Italy and France are also contracting.

France’s Peugeot, which saw a 9.3% fall in sales in June has closed a factory in the country, leaving 8,000 people unemployed.
